UNCOUNTED

So long as we believe we can stack the numbers to save ourselves, Jesus has the grace to let us play at counting.

We trumpet gains; we minimize our losses. We flatteringly compare ourselves to what we were, or what our peers still are. We do percentages, all unaware of just how dull our wits and pencils are.

And then, when scales at last drop from our eyes, we weigh the great immensity of One whose sole delight is in whole numbers—whole you and whole me.

Grace doesn’t make for top-notch statisticians, for heaven seems to count in myriads, and millions times ten millions.

Christ knows that what will bless us most is finally being lost—and found—in that vast, unnumbered throng.

Stay in grace.
