A Seventh-day Adventist-founded hospital in Fort Worth,
Texas, is undergoing a major expansion with the construction of a $95 million,
six-floor facility that will house patient rooms more than double the size of
those in the current hospital.
Texas Health Huguley Hospital broke the ground this month on
the construction of the 228,300-square-foot building adjoining the current
facility. It will open in summer 2016.
“We believe it is an important step in enhancing our
patients' experience with us," Ken Finch, president and CEO of Texas
Health Huguley Hospital, said in a statement.
Private patient rooms were a growing trend when the Adventist
Health System opened Huguley Memorial Medical Center in 1977, and it filled the
223-bed facility with rooms measuring a relatively small 147 square feet each. The
rooms in the new facility will cover 300 square feet each, giving more space
for equipment and visiting family members, Finch told the local Star-Telegram
newspaper.
The hospital is now known as Texas Health Huguley Hospital
Fort Worth South after the Adventist Health System and Texas Health Resources
formed a joint venture company in 2012 to own and manage the hospital.
"This new hospital is a sign of the successful
partnership between Texas Health Resources and Adventist Health System to more
effectively meet the health care needs of this community," said Doug
Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources.
The new facility was planned before the creation of the
joint venture, the Star-Telegram reported.
The hospital is named after Herbert T. Huguley, a dentist
and a real estate investor from Dallas who left his $6 million estate to the
Adventist church to build a hospital in honor of his parents, according to the
hospital’s website.
