Maybe the Lord wants you to write
for the Adventist Review?

Were looking for new writersmen and women of all ages whom the Lord has gifted and called to write. Were looking for people with a passion for God. Heres the broad scheme of what we are looking for:

The Platform
Spiritual Food: How to have a relationship with God. How to know Jesus better.
Message & Mission: What makes us Seventh-day Adventists, about our beliefs, and God-given task.
Diversity: Ethnic, age, and gender differences are great assets. The Review is for all people.
Reader Interaction: More letters and new opportunities to share how we live the Christian life.

The Spin
Editorials, devotionals and news will be in every issue but the focus will differ week by week.
Week 1 each month: The North American Division Edition. Focused as the division paper for Adventist believers in North America.
Week 2: The World Edition. Exciting news from the church around the world. We try to use articles of international interest.
Week 3: The Cutting Edge Edition. Radical discipleship, the God of the real worldreal-life accounts of Christian living by younger authors writing on contemporary issues.
Week 4: AnchorPoints. Solid doctrinal articles, Ellen White reprints, Adventist heritage.

Yes-Yeses
Deeply spiritual material. The difference God makes in your life. Solidly based in Scripture and in accordance with the Spirit of Prophecy. Give references for technical material and quotes. Open, honest, candid, personal, real, vulnerable, data-based, fresh, lively, upbeat. It would help to read books and articles on writing and/or take a class or seminar.

No-Nos
Tired familiar ideas. Top-of-the-head writing. Multiple submissions (if you send your manuscript elsewhere, dont send it to us.) Heavy on quoted materialkeep below 15 per cent, Quotes from songs or hymns (the copyright can cost us $400 for one line!) Fiction or dreams. More than two manuscripts at once. Too many manuscripts from one authorwe need variety. Long academic dissertations.

Heres How It All Happens
1. You get an idea (focus on only one), write it out in detail, boil it down, and boil it down again to meet necessary lengths listed below.

2. You submit: Double-spaced manuscript and a cover letter. Submit by regular mail. You may use e-mail, but some of the editors prefer hard copy through snail mail. Send to the following address rather than to a specific editor or your manuscript may not be processed, and you will wonder what happened to it.

4. We notify you of our decision, usually within six weeks. In rush times we cannot always notify writers of rejections unless they send an SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope) with the article. (Rejected articles are disposed of after six months.)

5. If we acceptwe buy your manuscript for one-time use, then the copyright returns to you. We pay on acceptance, not publication. You wont get rich writing for the Review, but you will receive a check in the mail:
$40 - $100 for unsolicited articles
$80 - $300 for solicited articles

(No payment for Meditations, Give & Take, News or Letters.)

6. When we accept your manuscript, we will ask for a WordPerfect diskette (if available), your Social Security number, a photo, and a request to grant our publishing houses overseas permission to reprint without cost.
