Giving light to our world—GLOW—is an outreach initiative in multiple North American Division conferences based on the concept of church members carrying Adventist literature with them wherever they go and handing it out—free of charge—at every opportunity. Here are two short stories of lives touched by GLOW:
While attending a multidenominational prayer conference, the chaplain of a local county jail noticed a GLOW tract lying on a table. The tract was entitled “Does God Care That I’m Hurting?”
“I didn’t think that any of the pastors would pick up the literature, because I placed it on the registration table after almost everyone had registered,”said the Adventist church member who had placed it there. Her simple act of literature evangelism, however, influenced more than the chaplain. After the chaplain read the tract, he decided that the jail’s 900 male inmates would also benefit from reading it, so he called the GLOW office number on the back of the tract and ordered enough copies for all the inmates. He also requested Bible studies for those who might be interested. He has since called the office twice more, asking for additional tracts and Bible studies for the men.
GLOW tract distributors have found ways to do evangelism at fast-food restaurants. When paying for and picking up her food order at a drive-through window, one tract distributor thanked the restaurant worker and then handed her the tract “When Jesus Comes Again.” She said to the restaurant worker, “Here’s something for you, too!” The woman slid the tract into her pocket and later, after reading it, called the GLOW office number printed on the back of the tract to ask for personal Bible studies.
In a different state another GLOW tract distributor left a tract titled “Dead Men Don’t Talk” on a table in a fast-food restaurant. The pastor of a local church picked it up, read it, and then called the GLOW office to request personal Bible studies.
