Give & Take

Solution to Boredom

My 6-year-old son Camden recently made this comment: “I hope Jesus brings us up to heaven today, because I’m getting really bored down here.”

—Shawn Brace, Bangor, Maine

“Two simple steps to make even the most boring sermon powerful:

  1. Pretend it’s your God-appointed duty to share what you learn with someone in darkness.
  2. Stop pretending.”

—Pastor Kameron DeVasher, on his Facebook page, Oct. 8, 2015

Latter Rain, Loud Cry

My parents were visiting my sister, who lived at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. An afternoon program in the men’s dorm entitled “The End-time” was being advertised. My father wanted to go, so my sister agreed, and coerced her two earliteen sons to accompany them.

As they got out of their car to go into the dorm, a sudden cloudburst thoroughly soaked them. Dripping, they went inside.

Near the end of the presentation, one of the college boys, playing a prank, opened the back door to the worship room where the lecture was taking place, let out a bloodcurdling scream, and slammed the door shut.

As they were leaving the lecture, one of my sister’s sons remarked, “ Well, Mom, not only did we learn about the end-time—we experienced the ‘latter rain’ and the ‘loud cry’!”

Words of Wisdom

I am a 30-year-old father of two with a wonderful wife. For my birthday this year my mother, who has been overjoyed with my fairly recent baptism and joining the Adventist Church, sent me a card with a short letter inside it. It was so encouraging and inspiring that it was too good not to share; I hope it will benefit Review readers:

May you always bring honor to God, devoted affection, tenderness, security, joy, and love to your wife and children.

May you grow in true Christian manhood and be an example of Christlike love to others, always manifesting fairness, moral integrity, and purity.61 1

May you walk with God.

All my love, Mom

A Lot of “Silent Nights”

According to a December 2014 Time article, “Silent Night,” for which Joseph Mohr wrote the lyrics (in German) in 1816, and Xaver Gruber put to music two years later, is the most recorded Christmas song in the modern era.
