Forgetting What Lies Behind

Fear persuades us to look downward and look back, to find in our muddiness and brokenness a cause to dread the future. But “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim 1:7). Only grace allows us, through the sacrifice of Jesus, to forget what lies behind and press forward to what lies ahead. So only grace can make the New Year truly new. It heals what fear corrodes, reminding us that the future can yet be the landscape of the Spirit. Come boldly to the throne, and stay in grace.
