Young adults in Seventh-day Adventist congregations around the world are encouraged to donate blood as part of the church's March 18, 2017 Global Youth Day. The effort seeks to combine community service with Christian witness.

According to a statement from the world church's Youth Department, "There is a lot more to religious faith than simply going to church and listening to sermons. The true practice of religion involves the revelation of God’s love in living out Jesus’ gospel commission."

Global Youth Day has always had a service component. This year, blood donations are highlighted.

"Sharing life through donating blood symbolizes Christ's sacrifice for us," the statement said. And, they said, "there is a shortage of blood in the blood banks."

Young adults are encouraged to learn how to plan a blood drive for Global Youth Day, at the department's website. They add, "While the blood drive is the main event for 2017, it should not stop you from carrying out other activities you have planned for the day."

The department notes Global Youth Day also commences the church's Youth Week of Prayer meetings. Adventists are encouraged to download the Youth Week of Prayer readings — available in French, Spanish and English, from the website.
