Witness Without Saying a Thing
BY WILONA KARIMABADI

[Main Story]

Countless individuals learn about God as a result of people exemplifying His character without ever speaking a word of doctrine. Hoosh was one of them. Sometimes we are called to simply plant the seeds of the gospel by showing Christ's love in our own lives. To some, this is called friendship evangelism. Here are tips to help you spread the word--without saying a thing.

Be a friend in every sense of the word. Your loyalty, kindness, compassion, honesty, and love may be the only Jesus some people will ever see.

Live the life. Speaking doctrine, expounding on the virtues of Adventism, reciting Bible texts verbatim--these have their time and place. But the greatest witness to one who has never met Jesus is seeing something different about your life and the way you live. They will be curious, they will ask, and the Holy Spirit will give you the words to say--when it is time.

Be hospitable. Hoosh's friends were teenagers at the time, and many were familiar with the concept of witnessing. But it was the simple act of inviting him to check out church with them, or play basketball, that served as an opportunity for him to want to learn more. If there are events at your church, family dinners, birthday parties, etc., invite a nonmember friend to come and just be with you. Often that's all it takes.

Be proud of your Savior and let it show. When His light shines through because Christ lives in you, people will see that. Your smile, your love, your joy make it evident that you know Someone who makes a difference in your life. Others will want to know that Someone too.
