As we thought about the subject of the main article, we
wanted to give our readers a sense of some of the substantial issues the Adventist
Church was tackling at the moment; and the Biblical Research Institute group
of the General Conference immediately came to mind. The day we reached them,
Gerhard Pfandl took our call, subsequently sending us the list that follows.
--Editors.
These are some issues that Adventists in various parts of the
world are grappling with.
Scripture--What is the authority of Scripture? Some
teach that in view of the "culture-conditioned" nature of Scripture
we need to rethink the nature of biblical authority.
Trinity--Is Jesus God from eternity, or did He have
a beginning? Is the Holy Spirit a person?
Creation--Did God create the world in six literal days?
Is theistic evolution a viable option?
Remnant--Is the Adventist Church the remnant church
of Revelation 12?
The nature of God--Is the open view of God an acceptable
option for Adventists?
Time prophecies in Daniel 12--Can the 1290- and 1335-day
prophecies be applied to the future?
Babylon--Can we defend the view that the Roman Catholic
Church is Babylon?
Sabbath--Do new covenant Christians have to keep the
old covenant Sabbath?
Eschatology--Is our eschatological scenario involving
Sunday laws still valid?
Homosexuality--How should Adventists relate to homosexuals?
