ow can a person rub shoulders with top fashion designers in
New York one year and step into a baptismal pool in South Carolina the next?
For Joshua Norris the journey has been awesome and life-changing.
As a teen Joshua was hired by a modeling company in Greenville,
South Carolina. His agent landed him a job in New York, where Joshua was invited
to parties where top fashion designers chose their models.
Joshua found that every job demanded some type of moral compromise.
Soon he found himself drinking and using drugs.
Realizing that modeling wasn't for him, Joshua came home. But
life in South Carolina seemed just as confusing. His younger brother, Aaron,
had begun taking drugs, and his mom had been studying Bible prophecy and had
discovered a time frame of "70 weeks." What did it mean?
Joshua went to the Internet and typed "70 weeks" in
the search engine. That led him to an Adventist Web site that referred to a
book written by Steve Wohlberg. Joshua obtained the book and was so impressed
that he bought 50 copies and began distributing them. After more research he
discovered that the author is a Seventh-day Adventist.
Joshua's research led him to several Web sites and more Bible
study. At home he discussed his findings with his family. Together they began
to scrutinize Adventist doctrines. Aaron became interested in the subject of
health.
Convicted about the Sabbath, Joshua had no idea what to do about
it. One day while driving in Greenville, he took a wrong turn. Frustrated and
conflicted with his life in general, he laid his head on the steering wheel.
"Oh Lord," he moaned. "I am so lost. What should
I do?"
As he looked up, his eyes focused on a sign pointing toward
the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Joshua made up his mind that he would keep the Sabbath. On Sabbath
morning he and Aaron got dressed and headed to church. Realizing they would
never make it to Greenville in time, they decided to go to the closer Anderson
church.
Two young brothers about their age, Shannon and Bo Kelly, met
them in the sanctuary. The Kellys had been baptized only a few years before,
after attending an evangelistic series funded by Carolina Breakthrough. Shannon
and Bo invited Joshua and Aaron to the NET series with Lonnie Melashenko, and
they accepted. Joshua and Aaron were baptized shortly afterward.
Today Joshua and Aaron witness whenever they can. They developed
and now maintain a Web site for conference evangelist John Earnhardt (www.wordministryonline.com).
