Pacific Press Fire Causes Limited Damage
A January 27 fire at Pacific Press Publishing Association in Nampa, Idaho, was quickly extinguished and did not cause significant damage, reports Robert Kyte, president.

A newly reinstalled device, used for reducing the emission of pollutants from one of the presses, caught fire Sunday evening, causing flames to shoot up through the building's chimney stack. "The fire department was immediately called to extinguish the blaze, which was done late Sunday night," says Kyte. "There were no injuries to anyone and damage was contained in the catalytic converter [the emission control device]. The Web press and building were not damaged." The cause of the fire is not known.

The Web press was down on Monday, January 28, for a pressroom cleanup of water and to ensure that all systems were ready to reactivate the press. The press started up again the next morning and is currently functioning at full capacity. The catalytic converter has been deemed inoperable and a new one has been ordered to replace it at a cost of approximately $200,000.

"The work of Pacific Press in serving our customers has not been affected by this interruption," says Kyte. "We are grateful to God that this situation was not worse and that no one was injured."

San Diego "Revelation of Hope"
Attracts Record Crowds

A record number of visitors attended the first weekend of Mark Finley and Ron Halvorsen's "Revelation of Hope" series in San Diego, California.

Although Finley had planned on about 1,400 people attending, more than 2,600 crowded in on the first night. The response was so great that an auditorium next to the main hall was set up with video projectors and screens to accommodate all who came to hear the message.

Visitors continued to arrive as the weekend progressed, and approximately 1,500 non-Adventists attended over a three-day period. Finley, Speaker/Director of It is Written Television said, "It's the largest number of non-Adventist visitors we've seen in our North American evangelistic outreach. Truly God is doing something amazing in San Diego!"

Karachi Adventist Hospital Receives Certification
Karachi Adventist Hospital (KAH), in Pakistan, recently received an international certification from the United Kingdom at its first inspection. "This certification is coveted by international businesses because it assures the customer of a quality management control system," says Gail Schatzschneider, KAH spokesperson.

Inspectors were thorough in their review of employee records, job descriptions, hospital policies, procedures, and techniques. Hospital administrators Zubaid Inayat, Shakil Munior, Primrose Daniel, and Daniel Khan, prepared the hospital for this rigorous inspection. Karachi Adventist Hospital is the first Adventist hospital to receive this international certification.

Established in 1947, KAH is located in a city of 18 million. It has 143 beds and employs more than 400 workers. The hospital provides medical care to adherents of all religions of Pakistan including Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Parsees.
