Give & Take

Adventist Life

My son Trevor Bullock was featured in the September 19, 2002, Adventist Review. Just a quick update: he is now the COO of Five Nines, a technology company in Lincoln, and he and his wife, Carissa, have two boys.

Gavin is 6 and Treyson is 4. In March 2014 Trevor and Treyson came to my office. Trevor related this incident to me: On their drive over, Treyson was watching The Ten Commandments on his screen in the back seat. Trevor was telling him about Jesus coming soon and how wonderful that will be. Treyson was quiet for a while and then asked, “Will Jesus know the code to our garage?”

Camp Meeting Memories

I remember best the 2011 camp meeting in Kenya. I learned four lessons that I still hold dear today: We were taught (1) how to be second-mile Christians, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:41; (2) how to let the battle be the Lord’s, as in 2 Chronicles 20; (3) how to spread the letter before the Lord, as Hezekiah did in 2 Kings 19; and (4) that God’s timing is the best, with lessons drawn from the story of Abraham, Sarah, Ishmael, and Isaac.

In 1999 we had camp meeting under a big tent in Kansas City, Kansas. I really miss the big tent! It brings a down-home revival feeling!

My best friend Ruthy took baby powder from my bag and threw some under her dress because it was so hot outside. I guess she wanted to relieve her perspiration. Ruthy is now resting in Jesus.

Sound Bite

“Hope doesn’t depend on what is happening around the boat. It depends upon who’s in the boat.”

O CANADA! This floral arrangement was created by Marj Dubuc for Canada Day Sabbath (June 28, 2014) at the Canadian University College church in Lacombe, Alberta. If you use a little imagination, you can see the overall arrangement is in the shape of a maple leaf, one of Canada’s emblems. You can also envision the Canadian flag with a bar of red on the left and right and a maple leaf in the center on a white background. The congregation has enjoyed Dubuc’s creativity as the church’s floral coordinator for 34 years.
