One Sabbath as an elder was giving the call for the offering, he said he had two slides to show about the finances of the church. After showing and explaining the first one, he asked the audiovisual team to go to the next graph. Instead of showing the graph, however, they accidentally skipped to the title slide for the hymn that was to follow—“I Surrender All.”

I opened my April 12, 2014, sermon for “Youth Sabbath” with an illustration about a Christian artist who walked out of this year’s Grammy Awards because of the show’s anti-Christian content. On the way home from the worship service, members Paul and Venice Raab’s 8-year-old son, Talon, looked at his grandmother, Carmen Rosa, and asked, “Grammy, why didn’t you get a Grammy award?”

The Inter-American Division (IAD) is comprised of Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and the five northernmost countries of South America. With more than 3.5 million reported members, this division is the church’s most populous region. There are about 11,000 Adventist churches in this division, which is home to a population of nearly 280 million.
There are 13 Adventist universities in IAD. The region also operates 13 major hospitals, located in Belize, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Venezuela, and three in Mexico. Another major organization is the Inter-American Adventist Theological Seminary, which offers graduate-level religious education to pastors and teachers on the campuses of 10 affiliated Adventist universities and seminaries.
